Biography:
Abe Fineer fled Kent County, Maryland in 1856 at the age of
twenty-three. He
escaped Georgetown when fleeing his owner, George Spencer.
Spencer
was married to Margaret and together they had four children,
Helen,
Jervis, Charlotte, and Laura. Abe was thought to have escaped
with
fellow slaves Henry
Saunders, Sam
Davis, William
Henry Thompson, and Thomas
Parker. Though little has yet been recovered about
his life after escape, Fineer reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground
Railroad.
