Biography:
Henrietta Hall fled from Ladies Manor in Cecil County, Maryland, in December 1855 with her husband, Jacob Hall, and son, Charles H. Hall. Her owner was Sarah Ann McGough, a woman who drank heavily and whom Henrietta felt she could not please. Ms. McGough had sold Henrietta’s brother and sister and so she feared the same would happen to her. Her mother had escaped earlier and fled to Canada.
