Biography:
At age twenty-four, Henry Chambers successfully escaped Cecil County, Maryland with fellow slaves John Chambers (his brother), Samuel Fall, and Jonathan Fisher. Before his escaped, Henry was owned by William Rybold, a farmer living in Sasafras Neck, Maryland. Though little has yet been recovered about his life after escape, Chambers is known to have reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground Railroad.
