Biography:

George Anderson successfully escaped from Elkton in Cecil County, Maryland, in 1856.  He arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with "Captain F" and seven other slaves from different areas: Peter Heines of Eatontown, North Carolina, Matthew Bodams of Plymouth, North Carolina, James Morris of South End, North Carolina, Charles Thompson of Portsmouth, Virginia, Charity Thompson of Portsmouth, Virginia, Nathaniel Bowser of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Thomas Cooper of Portsmouth, Virginia.  Though little information has been recovered about his life after his escape, Anderson is known to have been aided by individuals connected to the Underground Railroad in Philadelphia.
