Biography:
Thomas Henry successfully escaped from Dorchester County, Maryland in 1857 at the age of twenty-six. He ran from his owner Josiah Wilson, a resident of New Market, with fellow slave Nathan Collins. Though little information has yet been recovered about his life after his escape, Henry is known to have reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground Railroad.
