Accomplice to slave flight, Baltimore City, 1857
Biography:
On March 24, 1857, Thomas Skinner was convicted in Baltimore County on four counts of enticing slaves to run away. His case was removed from the Baltimore City Circuit Court to the Baltimore County circut court. He was a wagon driver who was thiry-three years old at his sentencing. He was sentenced to be confined in the Maryland Penitentiary for ten years and four months. He was recommended for clemency by an accounting of the time he served, and his good conduct during the period of his confinement, as certified by the Warden of the Maryland Penitentiary. He was pardoned by Governor A.W. Bradford on February 18, 1865.
