Accomplice to slave flight, Washington County, Maryland, 1853

Biography:

Committed to the Maryland State Penitentiary on May 29, 1853, George Harrison, a free Black resident of Washington Country, served a sentence of six years, six months  for enticing a slave to run away.   Harrison, a thirty-four year old married farm laborer, recieved his freedom on November 18, 1847 when Samuel Middle Kauff applied to the Orphan's Court of Washington County for Harrison's manumission.  Kauff reported George Harrison to be a person of good conduct and character.  The Maryland State Penitentiary released Harrison on May 29, 1860.
