Escaped from Slavery, Queen Anne's County, Maryland, 1834

Biography:

Greenbury Brown was born a slave in the Church Hill area around 1804. By 1834, however, Greenbury Brown was enslaved on Valentine Bryan's farm on Piney Neck, south of Queenstown in Queen Anne's County. Sometime that year, Brown escaped from Bryan's farm. Although the exact date of Brown's escape is not currently known, Bryan submitted a runaway advertisement in the Centreville Times on July 26th.1
