Biography:
Nat Burgess, a twenty-six year old enslaved man belonging to Thomas Clagett, one of Prince George's County's largest slave holders, fled in June of 1852, the first of two slaves to escape Clagett in four months. Allen West, another of Clagett's slaves, fled in Septmeber.
