Biography:
Milly Tyler, an eighteen year old enslaved by R.H. Stuart of Prince George's County, fled in July 1851. Tyler's father and many other relatives lived as free blacks in nearby Washington, D.C. Her pursuers suspected the family's complicity in her flight attempt.
