Tom Hughson (b. circa 1819 - d. ?)
MSA SC 5496-0387
Fled from slavery, Baltimore County, Maryland, 1847

Biography:

Physical limitations allowed Tom Hughson to walk only with a cane.  Using that cane, however, the twenty-eight year old enslaved man attempted to walk away from bondage in December 1847.  Held on Rezin Worthington's estate in Elysville, western Baltimore County, Hughson doubtlessly took advantage of the relaxed authority and frequently distracted owners of the Holiday Season.   The success or failure of Hughson's attempt has yet to be recovered.
