Secretary of Commerce William M. Daley is requesting the
Governors of New York, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania,
Virginia and North Carolina to submit nominations of qualified
candidates for one of the Council's currently vacant at-large seats.
The Assistant Administrator for the National Marine Fisheries
Service, Penny Dalton, on behalf of the Secretary of Commerce, is
accepting nominations through November 30, 1999.
Charles E. Bergmann, who served on the Council since 1995,
submitted his official resignation on October 18, 1999. A
replacement for his at-large seat will be appointed to serve the
rest of his term through August 10, 2001 and the new member may
begin service immediately upon selection.
Since at-large seats are regional, Governors may choose to
nominate residents of their states or another regional Council
constituent state. The public also has the opportunity to submit
nominations to the Governors of the states. Nominees must forward
complete nomination kits to the Governors' offices in sufficient
time to allow the Governors to submit complete nomination packages
to the Assistant Administrator by the deadline date.
Nominees must be knowledgeable and experienced in one or more of
the following areas related to fishery resources: commercial fishing
or the processing or marketing of fish; recreational fishing for
pleasure, relaxation or consumption; leadership in a state, regional
or national organization; management or conservation of natural
resources; representing consumers of fish or fish products through
participation in local, State, or national organizations; and
teaching, journalism, writing, consulting, legal practice, or
researching matters directly related to fisheries, fishery
management, and marine resource conservation.
For more information, or to receive a nomination package, contact
the Governor's office of your state or call the Council's office at
(302) 674-2331.
