State
Schools Superintendent Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick will visit
Bel Air High School tomorrow to personally commend
2004-2005 Harford County Teacher of the Year, Joan M.
Hayden, a 26-year teaching veteran.
The visit will allow Dr. Grasmick to see Hayden,
a 10-12 educator and Department Chair of Family and
Consumer Sciences, in action as well as observe other
exceptional programs and students within the school.
Hayden teaches classes focusing primarily on child
development and directs the Lil’ Bobcats Preschool at
Bel Air High School. In addition to mentoring student
teachers and sponsoring the Future Educators of America
Club, Hayden supervises senior interns at the local
elementary school.
Dr. Grasmick’s tour begins with a welcome by
administrative staff and a brief overview of Bel Air
High School. She will meet two extremely gifted
students, Adam and Andrew Berry, who are twin brothers
tied for first in their class. Next the
superintendent will read to preschoolers in the Lil’
Bobcat Preschool at Bel Air High School. The visit will
culminate with a tour of the high school led by
Principal Joe Voskuhl.
Dr.
Grasmick’s visit is part of her ongoing “Tours of
Excellence” where the superintendent travels the state
to congratulate award-winning teachers and Maryland Blue
Ribbon Schools.
