ANNAPOLIS, MD– Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., announced today that 255 Maryland arts organizations will receive a combined $9.2 million in matching grants as part of the Ehrlich Administration’s efforts to promote the arts in Maryland. The grants will support the general operations of arts organizations, ongoing arts programs and projects, as well as the activities of Maryland’s 23 official county arts councils and Baltimore City.
“The arts are not only an important economic generator in Maryland, they are vital to maintaining our outstanding quality of life and educating our children,” said Governor Ehrlich. “I am gratified that, even in tight budgetary times, Maryland remains a strong supporter of the arts. I am committed to ensuring that Maryland arts organizations and artists have the financial resources they need to grow and thrive.” The Governor approved the matching grants based on the recommendations of the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.Ten statewide Maryland arts organizations received grants totaling approximately $4.8 million.
