Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., today announced Trent M. Kittleman has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA). Members of the Authority approved Kittleman’s appointment during a meeting today. The Executive Secretary is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the MdTA. The Authority maintains and operates the State’s seven toll facilities and is currently involved in projects to construct the Intercounty Connector in Montgomery and Prince George’s County, as well as the development of Express Toll Lanes on some of the State’s busiest highways. Prior to this appointment, Kittleman had served as Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).
“In the days ahead, one of the most challenging leadership positions in the State will be at the Maryland Transportation Authority,” said Governor Ehrlich. “Its lead role on the ICC and the development of Express Toll Lanes require a strong, visionary hand at the helm. I am confident Trent Kittleman is the right person at the right time to lead the Authority into the future.”
Governor Ehrlich appointed Kittleman as Deputy Secretary of MDOT in January 2003. Since then she has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the department that operates Baltimore/Washington International Airport, the Port of Baltimore, an extensive mass transit and highway network, as well as the Motor Vehicle Administration.
“Trent’s record of accomplishments as Deputy Secretary touches every agency in the department,” said Transportation Secretary and MdTA Chairman Robert L. Flanagan. “Whether leading the drive to build the ICC or reshaping the retail image at BWI, Trent has shown an amazing ability to cut to the core of an issue and deliver the improvements that will mean the most to the citizens of Maryland. Her leadership, her focus and her ability to get people to work towards a common goal will be a great asset to the Authority.”
“Throughout my tenure as Deputy Secretary, I have been intimately involved in dealing with the challenges facing the Authority,” said Deputy Secretary Kittleman. “Our focus has been, and will continue to be, improving customer service at all our MdTA facilities. At the same time, I look forward to working with the members of the Authority in charting a course for the future that will include the Intercounty Connector and innovative approaches to dealing with congestion in our State. I thank Governor Ehrlich for this exciting and unique opportunity.”
Ms. Kittleman resides in West Friendship and is the wife of late State Senator Robert H. Kittleman.
