Garland Named To Lead Governor’s Office For Children, Youth, and Families Ehrlich Announces New Leadership at GOCCP |
Governor Ehrlich today named Terri Garland to lead the Governor’s Office on Children, Youth, and Families. Garland has spent nearly ten years implementing and developing the Harford County Child Advocacy Center, a multi-disciplinary agency that consists of social workers, police officers and prosecutors who investigate cases of child sexual abuse and assault. Garland practiced civil law for several years with a concentration in domestic law and representation of children. Additionally, during her 14 years as a prosecutor, she spent three years initiating the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Domestic Violence Unit. Garland served on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence during her time as a prosecutor and traveled throughout the state conducting training seminars on prosecution and investigation of domestic violence cases. “Terri Garland is an experienced advocate who will fulfill the mission of advancing the health, safety, education, and well-being of Maryland’s children and youth, in partnership with families and communities,” said Governor Robert L Ehrlich, Jr. Garland is active in the community and has conducted numerous statewide and national community outreach projects in the areas of sexual child abuse and Internet safety for children. Garland was the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Victim Assistance and the Maryland Child Advocacy Center Alliance Award of Excellence. Garland, a native of Maryland, received her Bachelor
of Science from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Juris Doctor
from the University of Baltimore.
