Weekly online newspaper provides a vocabulary- building tool for special education and beginning reading students
HURON, OH - Sept. 23, 2003 - News-2-You, developers of the only weekly online newspaper providing current events to special education students, announces that its popular weekly current events newspaper will acquire another add-on feature: a Higher-Level Edition. News-2-You was created for special needs educators seeking a vocabulary-expanding tool that provides regular exposure to current events topics. The Higher-Level Edition, available as of the September 1, 2003 newspaper, serves the segment of the special needs classroom that requires more text with fewer supporting visual icons.
The company entered the educational marketplace in 1998 with its unique Internet newspaper. The concept sprang from what its creator, Jacquie Clark, a speech pathologist, saw as a frustrating fact of life in the twentieth century classroom: the exclusive reliance on functional instruction for the special needs student. Clark posited that regular inclusion of current events topics in the curriculum would demonstratively enhance students' communicative skills. She anticipated that such exposure would build individual vocabularies, promote self-confidence and increase social interaction. She was right.
News-2-You offers an Internet newspaper targeted specifically for the special needs and beginning reader communities. The paper, delivered weekly during the school year, is available though both individual and group subscriptions. "Many teachers tell me that they build their entire weekly lesson plan around News-2-You," Clark reports.
"First of all, we choose an in-the-news main story for each edition. It can be a new event, a sports hero, the latest movie or any other audience-appropriate subject. Educators can achieve virtually all of their academic objectives through the creative use of the paper. And all they have to do to begin the process is down-load and print the newspaper."
The "higher level" edition is reformatted with fewer icons and includes additional activity pages that are more challenging. This edition joins News-2-You's growing product offering including a simplified version, a 6-8 page newspaper in larger print; and a Communications Board, a single page collection of all key vocabulary words (with matching icons) used in that edition. Each newspaper includes current events stories, simple recipes, jokes, games, a review page, a coloring and crossword pages, and additional stories related to the first story.
Pricing
Individual subscriptions are $65.00. Group pricing is $270.00 for a maximum of 25 teachers. Partial year subscriptions are also available. Discounts for renewals and multi-year renewals are available.
