VSA arts of Texas is offering four $500 mini-grants to professionals working with students having special education needs. The grants can be used to host an artist or artists (visual arts, music, theater, dance, writing) in classrooms. Local sources must provide at least a $500 cash match and use the grant money in such a way that benefits a majority of the students who are on an ARD plan. "Odyssey, Dare to Imagine..."
Call for Poetry
VSA (Vision, Strength, and Artistice Vision) arts is pleased to announce a Call for Poetry
on the theme "Odyssey, Dare to Imagine..."
Deadline: April 30, 2003
All students ages 11-18 are invited to participate by submitting poetry that is related to the theme to their local VSA arts affiliate organization. Poems will be grouped into two categories by age: Group 1: ages 11, 12, 13, 14 and Group 2: ages 15, 16, 17, 18. A maximum of four (4) poems (two from each age category) from each local VSA arts affiliate will be forwarded to the VSA arts Home Office in Washington, DC. Poems will be used in VSA arts publicity efforts and will become part of an exhibition at the 2004 VSA arts Festival to be held in Washington, DC.

Wings Opens Quest Season
Quest Productions, a division of Quest: arts for everyone, returns to the stage after its highly successful coordination of Gallaudet University's Deaf Way II International Arts Festival. Quest will mount three productions in the upcoming season.
Wings, a new theatre piece celebrating the human spirit, opens the season December 19, 20, 21 [2002] at the H Street Playhouse, an exciting new space located at 1365 H Street, NE in Washington, DC only a few blocks from Gallaudet. Wings features a dynamic young cast of deaf and hearing performers. Directed by Tim McCarty, with choreography by Quest Affiliate Artist, Fred Beam and mime direction, by David Gaines, Wings employs a variety of visual theatre elements to explore both the lighter and darker aspects of the human experience. In March, Mike Lamitola, a Quest Affiliate Artist and the Artistic Manager for the National Theatre of the Deaf, will direct Willy Conley's powerful play The water falls. In May, Quest will remount its highly successful production of White Frost Falls featuring Quest Affiliates Shizumi Manale, Mark Jaster, and Willy Conley.

Martin Bruch, an Austrian photographer with MS, has endeavored on a new project that integrates the mishaps of having MS and the beauty of art.
Every time Martin Bruch falls, he pulls out his throw-away camera that is tucked in his pocket and takes a picture from his skewed perspective. Bruch has complied all 307 of his photos into his book, Bruchlandungen, which means crash landings.
