Free eye care available for America's Working Poor

The American Optometric Association announces that for the first time, VISION USA, its free eye-care program for low-income working Americans, is accepting applications and examinations year-round.
To qualify for free eye care through VISION USA, individuals must be working or be part of a household with one member who is working at least part time, have no insurance that covers eye examinations, and income below an established level based on household size, and not have had an eye exam in the past 24 months. (Some states have different eligibility requirements).
You can register by calling toll-free: 1-800-766-4466, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central time.

Preparing for Post-secondary Education

The U.S. Department of Education has published a new booklet entitled "Students with Disabilities Preparing for Post-secondary Education; Know Your Rights and Responsibilities." You can find it on-line at www.ed.gov/offices/OCR/transition.html or contact the ADA Information Center at 1-800-949-4232 V/TTY and find out how to order it by mail, fax, e-mail, or telephone.

DOT Creates New Disability Hotline

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) operationalized its new aviation consumer disability
toll-free hotline. The number is 1-866-266-1368 (voice) and 1-866-754-4368 (TTY). If you experience disability-related air carrier problems, please call the number and register your complaint.

2003 Maryland Technology Academy Leadership Program

July 21st - August 7th

The 2003 Maryland Technology Academy Leadership Program application is now available for download from the MTA website http://www.mdtechacademy.org The files are available in Word format, PDF, or you can complete the application online. Please take the time to spread the news and encourage Maryland educators to apply. The 2003 Academy will run from July 21st - August 7th on the campus of Towson University.

Applications are due March 31, 2003
