Chronic Pain Visual Arts Project - PAIN Exhibit A touring museum art exhibit from artists with chronic pain with their art expressing some facet of the pain experience is being planned to open in the United States in the Fall of 2004. The exhibit will include drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, mixed media, and digital art. Artists with chronic pain are encouraged to submit slides (photos, cd) of PAIN Art with a written description of what facet of the pain experience the art expresses. For example, the art might express the emotional and/or physical suffering, or overcoming pain, or art about therapeutic treatments. There are endless possibilities and it is up to the artist to explain the connection between the art and their chronic pain. Please submit the following for consideration:

  1. Complete contact information - include name, address, phone number, email address
  2. Title of work
  3. Description of media
  4. Dimensions of work - width x length x depth
  5. Slides (photos or cd)
  6. Explanation as to what facet of the pain experience art expresses
  7. Self-addressed, stamped envelope (with correct postage) for return of slides

Essays wanted for new book:

Guidelines For A Different Journey: Personal stories for parents by adults with disabilities is a new book that Stan Klein and John Kemp are co-editing. For this book, adults who have grown up with disabilities and/or health care needs are invited to write short essays for parents of children with disabilities and/or health care needs. In their essays, authors are asked to write an essay that they wish their own parents had read or been told while they were growing up.

Here are specific guidelines for essays:
  1. Please write an essay of about 1500 words, or less. Add a biography of about 150 words, or less, that would follow the essay in the book. At the end of the essay, please write your mailing address, telephone number, fax number, and Email.

  2. Please submit your essay as an attachment in Microsoft Word to an Email or paste your essay into the body of your Email. Send Email to: stan @ disabilitiesbooks.com

  3. If you submit your essay by regular mail, please double space the text. If at all possible, please also submit the essay on a disk as well. Please label each page of your printed essay and the disk with your name and address. Please send the printed copy and disc to:

Arts Events and Announcements

Auditions for "The Sky is the Limit" Community Theatre's Spring Production will be held at the Eastern Regional Performing Arts Center, 7701 Wise Avenue in Dundalk, Maryland on Wednesday January 22, 6:30 - 8:30 pm and Saturday, January 25, 12 noon - 3:00pm. Auditions are for children and adults. People with disabilities are encouraged to audition. Please prepare a song and bring a photograph. Technical people are also needed. CBS and FOX Series return with video description this fall. A variety of prime-time and kids' series will return to CBS and FOX with video description service for the nation's 12 million viewers who are blind or visually impaired: Blues Clues; CSI: Crime Scene Investigators; and JAG on CBS, as well as the series The Bernie Mac Show, Boston Public, Magic School Bus, Malcolm in the Middle, and The Simpsons on Fox.
