TRAINING SCHEDULE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF 2001

LOOKING AT ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Tour the Universal Workplace and the Interactive Technology Suite at the Maryland Rehabilitation Center and hear about the great variety of technologies available to help people with all kinds of disabilities. TRAINERS: Patrick McCurdy, Information and Referral Specialist and/or Susan Levi, Technology Demonstration Specialist.

This training will be held on the following Wednesdays (room numbers will be in your confirmation letter):

GETTING MORE SPECIFIC:

PROVIDING AUDIO DESCRIPTION
Tuesday, October 4, 2001: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Lunch provided)

When people who are visually impaired attend seminars, trainings or cultural events such as plays, movies, or the opera, their experience can be significantly enhanced by having someone describe the graphics, charts, actions of the presentors or actors, and other visual components of the experience. Find out the what, when and how to of audio description. Learn how to provide this service, the equipment necessary, and where you may be able to access this service and equipment. TRAINER: Ralph Welsh, Audio Describer for Maryland Arts Access, Inc.

KEYBOARDING AND MOUSING AROUND
Thursday, November 29, 2001: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

There are alternatives, other than voice recognition, to standard keyboards and mice that can help people who don't have hand use, have difficulty with hand use or pain with using standard keyboards and mice. Come and join us to see some of these devices and software programs. TRAINER: Taylor McConnaughhay, Rehabilitation Technologist.

DIFFERENT PHONES FOR DIFFERENT NEEDS
Tuesday, December 18, 2001: 10a.m. - noon

Lots of senior citizens and people with disabilities have difficulty using a standard phone because of hearing, speech, physical or cognitive problems. The good news is that there are lots of phones out there adapted for their use. available and how consumers might be able to get them for free.

TRAINING REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

Once again the trainings will be free. However, please help us plan appropriately for the group size and needs by registering in advance and notifying us if you are unable to attend the training for which you have registered.

Registration for all trainings must be received at least one week in advance. To register, complete the attached form, and mail it to: MD TAP, Attn: Secretary, 2301 Argonne Drive, Baltimore, MD 21218, or fax the form to: 410-554-9237. Sorry, telephone and last minute registrations can not be accepted.

All trainings listed on this schedule will be held at the Maryland Rehabilitation Center. Notices of trainings at other sites will be mailed separately. As always, groups of at least 5 can arrange for training or demonstrations of technologies at the Maryland Rehabilitation Center and groups of at least 10 can arrange for trainings or demonstrations of technologies (except computers) at any site in the State of Maryland. Trainers are provided courtesy of the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services, Maryland Rehabilitation Center, Rehabilitation Technology Services. Trainings are intended for general educational purposes, recommendations of specific devices for individuals is not available.
