***PLEASE forward this email to your friends and organizations and schools for the deaf and hard of hearing in the DC/Baltimore area. Thanks for your help!****

We're delighted to announce the General Cinema Owings Mills 17 in northwest Baltimore and our General Cinema Springfield Mall 10 in Northern Virginia are both using their DVS/RWC technology this week.

Owings Mills has SHREK (rated PG) with RWC captions only and Springfield Mall has A KNIGHT'S TALE (rated PG13) with Rear Window Captions for the deaf and hard of hearing AND with DVS descriptions for blind. .

SHREK is a hilarious new animated film for kids AND adults and A KNIGHT'S TALE is a lot of fun and very exciting as well. It's got jousting competitions, daring feats on horseback, romance, adventure and lots of laughs. We think you'll enjoy this movie as much as we did.

****If you have any questions or concerns about the technology or this program, please email them to me. Our theatre managers are not always equipped with the information or the time to address all of your questions individually -- especially on busy, busy weekends. I always get back to inquiries as quickly as I can. Thanks!

Some other upcoming movies will be the animated film ATLANTIS (with both captions and descriptions) and PEARL HARBOR (with both captions and descriptions). We'll let you know about dates and showtimes when they're available.

***Please pick up your captioning screen or DVS headset before going into the auditorium. The number of screens is limited, so we don't recommend arriving in groups larger than 5 or 6. Also, please get there at least 30 minutes in advance to better your chances of getting both a ticket AND a captioning screen. The trailers and movie previews are NOT captioned -- just the main feature.

These systems, developed by the Media Access Group at public broadcaster WGBH/Boston, enable children and adults with disabilities, their families and friends to attend first-run films day and date they debut, at regular showtimes, as long as the films themselves are captioned and described.

PEARL HARBOR will debut at the Palace 20 Theatre on Friday May 25 with closed captions and audio descriptions and will play with captions and descriptions until at least Thursday, May 31 at the following times each day:
11:00 AM 3:00 7:00 PM.

Address:
Palace 20 Theatre
1200 Elmwood Park Blvd.
Harahan, Louisiana
504 733-2029

The Palace 20 Elmwood is located off Clearview Parkway behind the Big K-Mart in Harahan, 15 minutes from downtown New Orleans.

The Palace 20 Elmood joins over 60 first-run and specialty theaters across the country which have installed these innovative closed captioning and audio description systems. New Orleans also has an IMAX theater at the Aquarium of the Americas which is equipped with the access systems. Several IMAX titles, including GALAPAGOS, INTO THE DEEP and CYBERWORLD are currently playing there with descriptions and/or captions (more information at 504 565-3020). For a complete list of theaters with these access systems installed, visit www.mopix.org

Rear Window Captioning and DVS Theatrical were developed by the Media Access Group at public broadcaster WGBH/Boston. The Media Access Group is made up of two service departments, The Caption Center (est. 1972) and Descriptive Video Service or DVS (est. 1990), and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting/WGBH National Center for Accessible Media, a research and advocacy center with expertise in developing access solutions for traditional and emerging media. Solutions include captioning, description, audio menuing/navigation (for blind users) for convergent media and DVDs, and freeware tools for those companies or individuals interested in captioning and/or describing digital media themselves.
