In last month's issue of Tapping Technology, it was erroneously reported that TAP's new Eboard Corkboard's name was techtap. It is mdtap. MD TAP apologizes for the error. Please refer to this corkboard for the latest postings of events and announcements.

MD Relay seek participants

MD Relay Trial

I am writing to seek your involvement in some groundbreaking research. The Maryland Relay is testing a way of speeding up relay calls through use of speech recognition that allows communication Assistants to input information fast. We need VCO users to evaluate it, not just straight TTY users. We KNOW that there are more than 4 hard of hearing people in Maryland who should use this but that is all we have signed up so far.

You and the Maryland consumers who you involve with this will get to make long distance calls for FREE during the 6 month period and will receive a loaned high quality TTY or VCO phone (if you want one). Too good to pass up. Please help involve everyone you can think of.

The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange:
Equal Opportunities for International Experiences

From studying for a year in France to teaching English in China to volunteering on conservation projects in Costa Rica to conducting research in Zimbabwe, the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange can provide information on how people with disabilities can make these possibilities a reality.

Established in 1995 as a joint venture between the United States Information Agency (USIA) and Mobility International USA (MIUSA), and funded by the USIA, the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE), opens a world of opportunities for people with disabilities in international educational exchange programs worldwide. NCDE is a collaborative effort between MRJSA, USIA and 16 international exchange and disability-related organizations.

The NCDE strives to increase the participation of people with disabilities in the full range of international exchange opportunities by providing free information and referrals to individuals as well as disability-related organizations about international opportunities. In addition, it provides international exchange organizations and colleges and universities, practical how-to consulting and training on including people with disabilities into their programs.

By contacting our web site you can obtain additional information on NCDE, fill in an online request for information, learn about financial aid opportunities and events NCDE is sponsoring, share your international experiences in our peer-to-peer network, order MIUSA publications and more.

NCDE presents workshops at national and regional conferences sponsored by international exchange and disability-related organizations. NCDE's upcoming Model Cities Initiative will target the cities of Boston and San Francisco which will include events designed to initiate relationships between the disability and exchange organizations in those two cities and to increase participation of people with disabilities in international exchange opportunities.

NCDE publications include a free award-winning semi-annual journal, A World Awaits You, featuring people with disabilities who have successfully participated in international exchanges, and Building Bridges: A Manual on Including People with Disabilities in International Exchange Programs. Another publication is A World of Options: A Guide to International Exchange, Community Service and Travel for Persons with Disabilities provides information, stories, and contacts on a wide range of topics.

For almost 20 years, MITJSA has been a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities around the world through international exchange, technical assistance and training to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in international exchange and development programs.
