After a successful two year pilot in the greater Baltimore area, [the] First National Bank of Maryland is ready to go statewide with its program of secured and unsecured loans to people with disabilities. The program, first initiated in cooperation with the Maryland Technology Assistance Program in October of 1996, has provided funds for citizens of Maryland with functional limitations for the purchase of assistive technology. Vehicles, wheelchairs, scooters, Braille equipment, computers and home or workplace modifications are all eligible for funding via these unique consumer loans. First National offers a discount of 2% below the standard interest rate for loans made through this program. Vehicle loan rates are especially attractive. Applicants must meet standard bank criteria for loans, including income limits and credit checks.
