Assistive Technology Loan Program Celebrates First Anniversary

Customers have financed vans, stair glides, computer adaptations and wheelchair repairs through the Assistive Technology Loan Program in its first year of operation. The program, developed by First National Bank of Maryland in cooperation with MD TAP, offers loans for a wide variety of devices at a discount of 2 1/2% below market rates. First National's program is the first of its kind in Maryland. With available funds of $500,000, no bank in the nation has made a stronger commitment to assistive technology loans without the use of public funds.

The program offers loans to people with disabilities and their families who live in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard Counties. Due to popular demand, the bank will consider expanding the program statewide in 1998.

You can contact MCIL - Resources for Independent Living at (410) 444-1400 to get information about funding options for assistive technology, available devices and costs, and for application assistance, or you can call First National Loan Officer Chris Devaney at (410) 545-2122 to apply directly.
