My Trip To National Convention
by Jeremy Lincicome
On June 27, I flew to New Orleans on a 737 jet. I sat with my friend Ellen Nichols, and I met Mary Brady on the plane. I helped another (blind) friend get to the bathroom that was in the front of the plane. I liked the plane ride, but I had one little problem. My ears kept popping.
When we got to New Orleans, Mary, Ellen, and I took a shuttle to the Hyatt Regency. After we unpacked, we went to a fancy restaurant for dinner. I had crawfish and trout. It was delicious!
I got to meet a lot of people. I met Kyle from Michigan in child care, (NFB camp) We went bowling together. My friend Amy and I made things out of playdough. Jennifer, from Florida, and I helped watch the little kids.
We went on a field trip to the Children's Museum. The bus was full, so Mary and I took a trolley. I got to meet the trolley engineer. She let me operate the doors and look at the controls that she uses to drive the trolley.
We had an NFB Camp Band. I played the drums in the band. My favorite song was, "I Believe I Can Fly", by R. Kelly.
Friday night I went to the banquet. We had Fried chicken, green beans, salad, and ice cream. Dr. Jernigan and Mr. Maurer (sp?) gave speeches.
On Saturday night, we had a good time. We went to the French Quarter and ate dinner at a fancy restaurant. After dinner, we went to the revolving restaurant on the top of the Hyatt Regency for dessert. There were fourteen choices of chocolate. My favorite was Hershey's Kisses. I liked the chocolate cake too.
It was a great time in New Orleans!
