Short Term Equipment Loans:

The Assistive Technology Equipment Loan Program

The Information, Referral and Demonstration Center, a joint project of DORS and the Maryland Technology Assistance Program (MD TAP), has as one of its components a short term loan program. The purpose of this program is to allow professionals and consumers to try out equipment before deciding on purchase, to fill in when adaptive equipment is in the shop for repairs, or when you are waiting for delivery of ordered equipment. Loans are for 3 weeks. Depending on the demand for a particular item, a loan may be extended for an additional 3 weeks, but this is not guaranteed. Loans on more popular items are rarely extended. While items may be shipped, it is strongly preferred that the borrower come in to pick up the equipment. This provides the opportunity to give instructions and limits damages to the equipment.

There is no fee for the loan, but whoever makes the loan must sign a form agreeing to fix equipment that breaks during their use of it, releasing DORS and TAP from liability, and specifying that they will not sell or give away the equipment. If equipment is shipped, the consumer will be responsible for return shipping and insurance charges.
