Open Labs

Open Lab Tours: MD TAP Demo

The MD TAP Demonstration Center at the Maryland Rehabilitation Center
in Baltimore consists of assistive technology for learning and
working, seeing and hearing, and living independently. Presently on
display are 17 computers with alternative input interfaces and
peripherals, 11 augmentative communication devices, and 19
environmental control units and assistive telecommunication
devices. Specialized commercial and public domain software programs
are available for preview. A wide variety of adaptive toys and
switches, aids for daily living and sensory aids for individuals with
hearing or visual impairments are on display. The lab has been
developed for interactive hands-on demonstrations.

During Open Lab Tours, staff will explain statewide programs and
services. Equipment demonstrations and discussions highlight Open Lab
Tours. The majority of time is allotted for you to explore, practice
and evaluate characteristics of assistive technology for your needs.

Open labs are offered twice a month. One lab per month, Open Lab I,
will provide participants with an overview of assistive
technology. The other will focus on specific topic areas: augmentative
communication, environmental controls and assistive technology
devices, kidstech, sensory aids and assistive technology for
individuals with learning disabilities.

Open labs are limited to 10 participants. Larger groups must contact
MD TAP to make arrangements for a tour specific to your needs.

For specific dates, please refer to the training calendar in the
center of this issue of Tapping Technology. For registration or if you
have questions or need specific accommodations, call 800/ TECH-TAP.
