| THE MARYLAND INTER-RACIAL COMMISSION 7 I. PUBLIC SCHOOLS The growth of Negro public schools in recent years has been remarkable. We congratulate the Department of Education on this fact and hope that any inequalities and discriminations throughout the State may be rapidly and thoroughly corrected. A revised schedule of salaries for Negro teachers should be adopted. The following- is quoted from the School Bulletin of the Department of Education: Minimum Salary Schedule WHITE ELEMENTABY SCHOOL TEACHERS. Tears of Experience Grade of Certificate 1-3 4-5 6-8 9-+ Third ................................ $ 600 .$ 650 Second ............................... 760 800 $ 850 First ................................. 950 1,050 1,100 $1,150 First in charge of one-or two-room school ............................. 1,050 1,150 1,200 1,250 Principal with two assistants........... 1,150 1,250 1,300 1,350 Principal with five assistants and 200 in average attendance............... 1,350 1,450 1.500 1,550 Principal with nine assistants and S60 . j in average attendance............... 1,550 1,650 1,700 1,750 Provisional (emergency) teachers and principals receive $100 to $200 ! less than the foregoing schedule.
