Robert
Stripling
The
chief investigator for HUAC on the Hiss case,
Stripling interviewed Chambers a number of times
in 1948. It was Stripling who, after speaking
with Chambers in November 1948, ordered a subpoena
be issued for Chambers to turn over any evidence
he had to HUAC. As a result, on December 2,
Chambers gave committee investigators the film
of government documents which would be called
the "Pumpkin Papers."
