George D. Day

Biography:

Born on June 22, 1848, Howard County, Maryland. Married Virginia (b. 1850), c. 1870. Three children: Emma A. (b. 1872), George D., Jr. (b. 1874), and Melvin A. (b. 1883).

Farmer and businessman. Operated a store and several mills. Elected Sheriff of Howard County, 1887. Appointed to position in the Internal Revenue Service under President Benjamin Harrison. Named Indian Agent, Kiowa Indians, Oklahoma, 1891. Served in Maryland State Senate, 1896 and 1898; Republican. Active in Republican Party: delegate State Republican Convention, 1890; chair, Howard County Republican Convention, 1900; delegate, Republican Convention, 1900.
