Lewis Putzel (1866-1914)

Biography:

Born on December 16, 1866, in Baltimore, Maryland. Son of Sophia Newbeyer and Selig G. Putzel. Graduated Baltimore City College, 1885; University of Maryland Law School, second in class, 1888. Admitted to the Bar, May 26, 1888. Married, Birdie Putzel; two children. Died on May 30, 1914, in Baltimore City, Maryland.

Practiced law in partnership with Hugo Steiner as firm of Steiner & Putzel. Named Baltimore City Attorney, 1896. Served in House of Delegates, 1896. Served in State Senate, 1898, 1900, 1901, 1902; Republican. Unsuccessful candidate for Baltimore City Supreme Bench, 1907. President, Baltimore City Board of Election Supervisors, 1913.
