Theodore Mudd (1785-1864)

Biography:

Born Theodore "Dory" Mudd, May 31, 1785, near Bryantown, Maryland.  Son of Henry Thomas and Mary Aloysia "Ally" (Mahoney) Mudd.  Married Dorothy Ellen "Dollie" Dyer (1795-1861) in 1812; eleven children: Clarissa "Clare" Mudd(1813-1827), Judge Henry Thomas Mudd (1816-1890), Robert Merrick Mudd (1818-1834), Alexander "Alec" Mudd (1820-1909 ), Sr. Mary Rose Mudd (1822-1875), Jeremiah Theodore Mudd (1824-1874 ), Dr. George Dyer Mudd (1826-1899), Ann Theresa Mudd later Mother Joseph (1829-1913), Sylvester Samuel "Ves" Mudd (1830- 1896), Dr. James Marcellus "Marce" Mudd (1832-1881), Robert Ignatius Mudd (1834-1851).  Died October 4, 1864, in Millwood, Missouri.

Farmer, legislator, and magistrate. Theodore Mudd served as a magistrate in Charles County prior to his election to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1832. He saw military service during the War of 1812, initially as a Lieutenant in the 1st Regiment of the Maryland Militia. He later achieved the rank of Colonel. Some sources also refer to him as Major Mudd. After the death of his wife, Dollie, Theodore moved to Missouri, where some of his adult children were living.  It was here that he passed away in 1864 at the age of 79.
