Charles David Harris (1906-1983)

Biography:

Born Baltimore City, Maryland, December 11, 1906. Parents Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Carlton D. Harris. Attended Baltimore Public Schools. Graduated Baltimore City College, 1924. Received B.A. Johns Hopkins University, 1928. Attended University of Maryland Law School, 1930-1933. Admitted to the Bar, November 4, 1933. Married Janet Jeffery Harris (d. 2000), 1933. Four children: Charles D. Harris, Jr. (d. 1962); Suzanne Jeffery Harris Hansroth (d. 1968); Judith H. Proctor; Jayne Murphy; adopted grandson C. David H. Harris as a son. Died March 10, 1983 in Houston, Texas.

Began private practice with Moylan, McKeldin & Smith. Practiced in partnership with James J. Lindser, 1938-1941, and later with France, Rouzer & Lentz, 1941-1962. President, Bar Association of Baltimore City, 1958-1959. Vice President, Maryland State Bar Association, 1960. General Counsel, Public Service Commission, 1948-1955. Member, Employment Security Board, 1955. Special assistant to U.S. Attorney General. Appointed to Supreme Bench 1962. Retired, 1976, but continued to serve as a judge until his death.
