George A. Solter

Associate Judge of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City 1924-1943 

Biography:

Born May 14, 1873, Baltimore, Maryland. Son of John Solter and Mary Catherine Taylor Solter.  Attended public schools and Baltimore City College.  Graduated, University of Maryland Law School, 1896.  Admitted to the bar, June 2, 1896.  Married, Florence Walther (d. 1909), 1909; Christie Y. Dulaney, 1916; two children, George D. Solter and Mrs. Robert C. Stephenson.  Died in Baltimore, Maryland, November 27, 1950.

Practiced in partnership with William Bansemer, 1896.  Assistant State's Attorney, 1903-1905.  Member, Baltimore City School Board, 1907-1911; resigned in protest over the removal of three board members by mayor James H. Preston.  Board of Police Commissioners, 1910-1914.  Appointed to Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, April, 1924, to take the place of Judge Carroll T. Bond, who had been appointed to the Court of Appeals; elected to a full term the following year, re-elected, 1941.  Retired at the mandatory retirement age of 70.  Lecturer at the University of Baltimore.  Member, Board of Trustees, Goucher College.  Board member, Builders Exchange.
