Biography:

<> Born in Baltimore, Maryland, September 25, 1866.  Son of Dr. A. E. Smith (d. 1883).  Attended Baltimore City College.  Graduated, University of Maryland Law School, 1899.  Admitted to the Bar, June 3, 1889.  Married, Ella W. Griffith, 18978; two children, Charles F. Stein, Jr. and Clara Stein.  Died, Baltimore, Maryland, May 5, 1939.

Studied law with Jesse N. Bowen.  Worked in the lumber and building industries, 1889-1901.  Practiced as part of firm Henninghausen & Smith, 1901-1939, excluding years served as Judge; practice focused on real estate.   Appointed to Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, October 15, 1921, by Governor Albert C. Ritchie.  Retired as required by constitution, age 70, September 24, 1936.
