Walter I. Dawkins (1858-1936)

Biography:

Born October 21, 1858 Leonardtown, Maryland. Son of Young Parran Dawkins and Alethea Elizabeth (Dorsey) Dawkins. Never married. Educated in both public and private schools of Saint Mary's County. Saint John's College, B.A. 1880, M.A. University of Virginia Law School. Studied in the law offices of Daniel C. Hammett, Robert Ford and James Wilson, prominent attorneys and leaders of the bar in Southern Maryland. Admitted to the bar 1883. Charter Member of the Maryland State Bar Association 1896-1897. 18th President of the Maryland State Bar Association 1913-1914.Died February 10, 1936.

Practiced law for awhile in a Chattanooga, Tennessee. Opened a law office in Baltimore City 1887, and continued to practice law unitl 1911. Appointed associate judge of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, by Governor Austin L. Crothers in 1911. He remained on the bench until 1934.
