William Whittington (d. 1827)

Biography:

William Whittington was born between 1756 and 1769, son of William (d. 1769) and Mary King Whittington.  He was a lawyer and a planter whose landholdings in Worcester County included "Whittingtons Security" (patented 1798), "Whittingtons Recovery" (patented 1801) and "Whittingtons Meadow," (purchased 1807).  Whittington served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing Worcester County from 1793 to 1796.  From 1799 to 1802 he served as chief judge of the county courts of Caroline, Dorchester, Somerset, and Worcester counties (4th Judicial District).  He was married and had at least four children, possibly including John Rousby (1796-1800), John (1796-1800), and Samuel Handy (1798-1800).  He died in 1827 (his will is probated January 23, 1827).
