Transcript of Ann Mathews, Last Will and Testament, 1851:

    In the name of God, Amen.  I, Anne Mathews of the City of Baltimore in the State of Maryland being Sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this World when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say:
    First and principally I commit my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God and my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my daughter Ann Jane hereinafter named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devisee and bequeath as follows:
    Item(?).  I give and devise unto my daughter An Jane Mathews my house in which I now dwell situated on South Howard Street second down from the [unreadable] Ally one other house situated on the street running on Howard and one other house on south(?) lot fronting on Howard to her the said Ann Jane Mathews and her now and [unreadable] forever.
    I also give and bequeath unto the said Ann Jane Mathews all of my personal and mixed property of what it may consist of to the said Ann Jane Mathews and [unreadable].
    And Lastly, I do hereby constituted and appoint my said daughter Ann Jane Mathews to be sole Executrix of this my last will and testament making and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
    In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this tenth day of December in the year of our Lord 1851.

Signed sealed, published and declared by Ann Mathews the above named Testator as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us [unreadable] her request, in her presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereunto.

Baltimore City, As, On the 30th day of December 1851, came Thomas R. Small and John R Winslow two of the subscribing Witnesses to the aforegoing last Will and Testament of Ann Mathews late of said City deceased and Thomas R. Small made Oath in the Holy Evangely of Almighty God and John R. Winslow solemnly declared and affirmed that they did see the Testatrix sign and seal this will that they heard her published pronounce and declare the same to be her last Will and Testament, that at the time of her so doing she was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, and that they together with Henry H. Johns the other subscribing witness thereto, Subscribed their names as witnesses to this Will, in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other.
