William Geary Porter Jr., 77, of Hagerstown, died Friday, July
7, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 10, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late
William G. Porter Sr. and Emilie Zeigler Porter.
He was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He also
was a graduate of the University of Maryland and Johns
Hopkins University.
He was owner and operator of Ravenswood Antique Center
and W. G. Porter's Tobacco Store.
He was a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1955 to
1958. He was a director of civil defense and served on the
Gaming Commission.
He was a member of the Hagerstown Rotary Club, Funkstown
American Legion Post 211, BPO of the Elks Lodge 378,
Fraternal Order of Police, Funkstown Moose Lodge 2435 and
the Alsatia Club.
He is survived by two cousins, Margaret Doub of Baltimore
and Charles Zeigler of Hagerstown.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home,
415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. Monsignor Robert S.
Passarelli will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the
funeral home.
