Biography:

Born in Homestead, Pennsylvania in 1927.  Attended Munhall High School, Munhall, Pennsylvania; Slippery Rock State College, B.S., 1951; University of Maryland, M Ed., school administration.  Married Jean Bevan (divorced); five children:  William, Jr., Jon, Matthew, Patricia, Ingrid.  Married Joan Pitkin in 1996.  Resided in Bowie.  Died of heart failure November 4, 2000.

General Assembly:
House of Delegates, Howard, Prince George's Counties, 1983-90.  Member, Constitutional and Administrative Law Committee.  Chair, Howard County Delegation, 1984-85.  Member, Special Joint Oversight Committee on Economic Development.  Sponsored a 1986 bill that banned corporal punishment in Maryland schools.

Private Career and Other Public Service:
Served in U.S. Air Force, 1945-47.  Teacher, Prince George's County public schools, 1950s.  Principal, Greenbelt Junior High School; Laurel Junior High School, 1961-76.  Realtor associate, commercial-industrial.  Member and chair, board of directors, Greater Laurel-Beltsville Hospital Foundation.  Board of directors, Careerscope.  President, Greenbelt Lions Club; Prince George's County Core Teachers Association; Maryland State Core Teachers Association; Prince George's County Secondary Principals' Association; Southern Howard County Democratic Club.  Chair, Parents Booster Club, Laurel Beltway Wrestling Team.  Secretary, 6th District Democratic Club of Howard County.  Member, American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Deacon, Christian Community Presbyterian Church, Bowie.
