Evan Thomas
Anne Arundel County Court Clerk, 1702/3
MSA SC 3520-13134

Biography:

Not much information is available on Evan Thomas.  There are records of a Thomas family in Maryland, of which an Evan Thomas was a member.  The dates for that Evan Thomas, however, do not match those during which Clerk Evan Thomas lived.1  Evan Thomas, of Queen Anne's County, served as Clerk of the Court for Anne Arundel County in 1702/3.  Thomas held public office again from some time prior to July 1, 1707 until he resigned in June 1714 as Clerk of the Court for Queen Anne's County.2

Thomas died some time in 1715.3  There is no will available, but an inventory was taken of his property.  The inventory included several items such as furniture, tools, bedding, clothing, books, and a horse.  The total estimated value of this inventory was £ 28::11:1.4  No records found describe Thomas' family background or his wife, if he had one.  The accounts record completed after Thomas' death indicates that Thomas left money to one man, but he did not have the last name of Thomas.5
