Christopher Gregory

Biography:

Little information is available on Christopher Gregory.  It is not known about his birth, family, religious background, or land.  He held four public positions around the same time.  He served as Clerk of the Secretary's Office and Clerk of the Provincial Court from August 1698 until August 1699.1  He was Clerk of the House of Delegates from October 1698 until his death in August 1699 and served as Anne Arundel County Court Clerk during this same period.2  The total estimated value of Gregory's estate was 67:18:08 and included items such as wigs, furniture, cookware, cash in silver and gold, clothes, a sword, and a horse bridle.3  Gregory did not mention family members in his will.  He did leave items to members of the Dent, Boughton, and Simpson families.  He also left a seale ring to Sir Thomas Lawrence, the Provincial Secretary in charge of appointing Court Clerks.4
