William T. Wootton

Biography:

Born in 1795, probably in Prince George's County, son of Turner Wooten and Mary Mackall Bowie, daughter of Robert Bowie.  Attended St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland. Married to Margaret Hall.  Youngest son William T. Wootton (1837-1863) was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War.  Died in 1850.

Member, House of Delegates, Prince George's County, 1822-24; 1829-30; 1838; 1843-44.  Member of the Maryland Senate, Western Shore, 1831-36.  Candidate for governor of Maryland, 1843.  Secretary of state, 1845-48.
