Biography:

Born in Baltimore, Maryland.  Attended Loyola High School, 1960; Loyola College, 1964; University of Maryland School of Law, 1968.  Admitted to the Maryland bar, July 1969.  Married Barbara Hubbard; two sons.  Died April 8, 2008, in Towson, Maryland.

Attorney, Lord, Whip, Coughlan & Green. Assistant Attorney General, Maryland Attorney General's office, c. 1971-1983. Sworn in as Clerk of the Maryland Court of Appeals on March 22, 1983. Replaced James H. Norris, Jr., who became State Court administrator. Retired March 31, 2008.  In February 2008, Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler established the Alexander Cummings Award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy in his honor.
