Kathryn J. DuFour Receives Gibbons Medal
Retired Judge Kathryn J. DuFour of Gulf Stream, Fla., a longtime Catholic University benefactor for whom the law school's library is named, will receive the James Cardinal Gibbons Medal, the Alumni Association's highest award. The honor will be presented during Homecoming Weekend at the annual Awards Banquet at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Judge DuFour (center), the first woman jurist on the Maryland Circuit Court, served as circuit court judge in Rockville, Md., from 1955 to 1970 and was appointed chief judge for Maryland's Sixth Judicial Circuit in 1970. She retired in 1971. Earlier in her career, she served as a member of Maryland's Montgomery County Council and the Maryland House of Delegates. She was one of only three women to receive a law degree from the Washington College of Law at American University in 1936.

She was married to Raymond A. DuFour, B.A. 1928, L.L.B. 1936, a distinguished alumnus who served the university as a trustee before his death in 1990. His many gifts made possible the construction of the university's new law center and a modern athletic complex, which bears his name. Mr. DuFour was the 1982 recipient of the James Cardinal Gibbons Medal.

The Gibbons Medal is awarded for distinguished and meritorious service to the nation, the Roman Catholic Church or The Catholic University of America.
