Biography:

Born James William Murphy in Baltimore City, February 21, 1926.  Attended Mount Saint Joseph's High School; Loyola College. Received J.D., University of Maryland Law School, 1950.  Admitted to the Bar, June 19, 1950.  Married; three children.  Died February 16, 1990.

Served in U.S. Army during World War II.  Assistant State's Attorney, Baltimore City, 1953-1962.  Unsuccessful Democratic candidate for State's Attorney, Baltimore City, 1962.  Private practice in partnership with Alan H. Murrell, 1962-1970; specialized in criminal law.  Became judge of  Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, October 16, 1970. Retired, January 14, 1985.
