George M. Taylor (1920-1993)

Biography:

Born September 26, 1920, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Attended schools in Pennylvania; Binghamton North High School, Binghamton, New York; University of Baltimore, A.A., 1951; University of Baltimore, LL.B., 1953.  Admitted to the Maryland bar, 1954.  Married to Helen A. Hall, June 29, 1941.  Three children: Margaret, Sidona, and James.  Died June 28, 1993, in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  Buried at Meadowridge Cemetery.

Served in the U.S. Army, 1945-46. Practiced law in the offices of C. Bowie Rose in Glen Burnie, Maryland, until opening his own office in 1958. Assistant Attorney for the Anne Arundel County Sanitary Commission, 1961-64.  Appointed to the bench of the People's Court in Anne Arundel County in 1964 by Governor Tawes, where he served until his 1971 appointment to the newly established District Court of Maryland. He remained on the bench until his retirement on June 30, 1989. In recognition of his 25 years of service, the district court building in Glen Burnie, Maryland, was renamed in his honor. Professional memberships included the Maryland and American Bar Associations, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the North American Judges Association. Taylor was also active in the American Legion and the Order of the Moose.
