Edward T. Conroy (1929-1982)

Biography:

Born in New York state on January 31, 1929. Received B.S., Fordham University, 1951; LL.B., Georgetown University, 1956; LL.M., Georgetown University, 1957; J.D., Georgetown University, 1967. Admitted to the Maryland Bar, 1957. Married to Mary Conroy. Two children: Edward and Kevin. Died on May 24, 1982 in Maryland.

Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, 1951-1954. Served in Korean War. Received Silver Star, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts. Wounded at the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge. House Delegates, Prince George's County, 1963-1966. Maryland State Senate, Prince George's County (districts 4A and 24), 1967-1982; Democrat. Chair, Constitution and Public Law Committee, 1975-1982. After his death, his wife served the rest of his term, 1982-1983. Unsuccessful candidate for U.S. House of Representatives in 1964 and 1972, and for U.S. Senate in 1980. Remembered as a tenacious advocate for veterans, labor rights, redistricting reform, and automobile emissions controls.
