Biography:

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, February 5, 1926.  Son of John Thomas Parran, Sr. and his wife, Sarah.  Attended Charles County public schools; Charlotte Hall Academy; The Citadel; University of Maryland, B.A., 1950.  Died, January 16, 2006, in La Plata, Maryland.  Buried at Middleham Chapel, Lusby, Maryland.

General Assembly:
House of Delegates, (D) Charles County, 1955-58.  Senate, (D) Charles County, 1959-66.  Chair, Motor Vehicles Committee, 1961-66.  Chair, Legislative Council Committee to Study Automobile Inspections.

Private Career and Other Public Service:
Served in U.S. Army, 1944-46.  Real estate and insurance broker.  President, Young Democrats of Charles County; Indian Head Business Association.  Vice-president, Charles County Junior Chamber of Commerce.  Director, Charles County Chamber of Commerce.  Regional director, Boy Scouts of America.  Founder, Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, 1964, with J. Frank Raley, Jr.. Chair, Governor's Patuxent River Watershed Advisory Committee, 1969-72.  Chair, Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, 1971-74, member-at-large, 1971-2004.  Member, Democratic State Central Committee of Maryland, 1971-84; Commission on Chesapeake Bay Affairs, 1971-75; Chesapeake Bay and Coastal Zone Advisory Commission, 1973-82; Potomac River Fisheries Commission, 1983-2004.  Board of trustees, Charles County Community College (now the College of Southern Maryland), 1971-91.  Board of governors, Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, 1996-97.  Member, Lions; Moose; American Legion.
